Euler–Heisenberg waves propagating in a magnetic background

چکیده
Abstract We derive the Euler–Heisenberg solutions that describe electromagnetic waves propagating through very intense uniform magnetic or electric background, with effective metric approach. first explore case of a background: as result interaction between wave and background there is birefringence longitudinal field component arises. The two phase velocities depend on intensity external polarization wave; can be slowed down up to order hundred thousandths for fields $$B/B_\mathrm{cr}<< 1$$ B / cr < 1 . analogous study done when propagates field. then consider situation in movement by means Lorentz boost, modeling magnetized flowing medium. determined how this motion affects speed propagation wave, both direction velocity boost.

Propagating Waves in Visual Cortex
Spatiotemporal patterns of cortical activation occur superimposed upon sensory, motor, and cognitive maps. The papers by Benucci et al. and Xu et al. in this issue of Neuron demonstrate that visual responses propagate in space and may serve to link different visual areas. This is an important step toward understanding how cortical maps relate to activation patterns, a prerequisite to understand...
متن کاملDispersive Waves Propagating along a Surface Fracture
Significant work in the past few decades has lead to a well developed understanding of seismic wave propagation in fractured media. However, previous research has focused on fractures within rock as opposed to fractures at the surface of a rock. A theoretical and experimental study was performed to examine seismic wave propagation along a fracture at the surface, i.e., along the intersection of...
متن کاملPropagating Plasma Waves: General Results
In this work we study the acceleration in solar flares of He and He from a thermal background by parallel propagating plasma waves with a general broken power-law spectrum that takes into account the turbulence generation processes at large scales and the thermal damping effects at small scales. The exact dispersion relation for a cold plasma is used to describe the relevant wave modes. In the ...
متن کاملPropagating waves in an extremal black string
We investigate the black string in the context of the string theories. It is shown that the graviton is the only propagating mode in the (2+1)– dimensional extremal black string background. Both the dilation and axion turn out to be non-propagating modes.
متن کاملNon -propagating Waves and Behavior of Curtainwall-pile Breakwaters
Abstract Usually, evanescent modes or non-propagating waves are produced when a propagating incident wave impinges on an interface between two media or materials such as curtainwall-pile breakwater (CPB) at a subcritical angle and decay with distance from interface. To achieve an effective prediction of hydrodynamic performance of CPB and overcome the problem of underestimation of energy loss, ...
